This is the quality remote that all higher-end Denon AVR should be shipped with. If it costs $10 more to make than the non-backlit models, is that going to affect the bottom line on $3000 receivers? If you want to see the buttons in the dark, the RC 1221 is the one to get, even if you buy it after the receiver. The Yamaha high end remotes still put the Denon RC to shame though.

I recently purchased a Denon X6500H, the remote that came with it was not backlit. The model for the X8500H is. So, now I don't need a flashlight to control my receiver in my dark home theater.

I needed a remote control for my Denon AVR-4520 and did not want to buy one of the cheap Chinese replacement parts with only limited functionality and usually poor quality. Searching the web for the original RC-1165, I had to figure out that it's no longer available. Nowhere else than at replacementremotes.com did I find information that this RC-1221 also works with my receiver. Thanks for this! Second, the quality of this device is superb. The weight lets you feel that you own a solid masterpiece of Japanese electronics. From my opinion, a high-end AVR deserves a well-built remote control, and so does the owner. I was amazed after I inserted the batteries: the buttons of the RC are illuminated for operating in the dark each time you touch the RC. All buttons are made of soft silicone and work just swell. The best thing is: I find all functions in my AVR's manual, and I find all AVR functions on my RC. I would recommend this RC to everyone looking for a replacement.
